Kamengo

Wet Bottom Ash Storage And Load Out (2007)

The Kamengo feeder was started up in 2007 at Australia’s largest coal-fired power plant.

The ash from the submerged chain conveyor is transported by belt conveyor to the bottom ash silo, which can accommodate up to 200t of saturated coarse ash.

The main problems with bottom ash are its very abrasive nature (the ash contains a high proportion of silica) and its tendency to consolidate as the moisture in it drains. This led the owner to look for a different solution from the ones implemented in earlier plants.
