Solving plugging problems on wood fuel feeding to boiler

solving plugging problemsWhen a new boiler at a northern Alberta pulp mill was started up in the fall of 1993, they experienced severe flow problems with chain feeders at the boiler as these constantly plugged up. They could only operate with practically no head of material in the bins, which gave them poor feed rate control. At this point, the mill could only operate the boiler at less then 50% on hog fuel, and had to use a considerable amount of gas.

"Moving Hole" feeders installed in 1994 have eliminated the hang-ups and allowed the mill to operate their boiler at over 90% on hog fuel. The old chain feeders have been retained but only function as conveyors.

The "Moving Hole" feeders have also been mechanically reliable, with little maintenance required over the years.
