Common Discharge Feeder Problems

Extensive research has shown that the conventional feeder is a common cause of bin "hang-ups".

discharge feeder
  • A large proportion of the feeder power goes towards compacting material
  • Fibrous materials (e.g. wood waste, chips), are especially prone to compaction and plugging
  • Material is drawn mainly from the rear with little or no movement at the front
  • Stagnant material at the front is further prone to compaction, freezing and degradation

Most common feeders shear material from a head load, which can lead to further compaction. Such compaction must be avoided or at least minimized.

Fibrous materials, which typically have low bulk density and require large outlet dimensions, are especially prone to such compaction, which often results in severe plugging.

The "Moving Hole" feeder avoids the common feeding problems.
