Boiler Feeding
The "Moving Hole" feeder has been successfully used on a number of wood fired boilers. Several of the installations are retrofits to solve severe "hang-ups" with previous systems. The system has been used on "fixed" as well as "fluid" bed boilers. Positive slope mass flow design can provide substantial storage by the boiler
Unique configurations and layouts simplify distribution of fuel into and out of the storage system and to the boiler:

Several existing feed systems consisting of small surge bins with several minutes of storage have been retrofitted to improve performance. These bins are typically filled with a "distribution" flight conveyor that carries an over supply of hog fuel. A "returns" conveyor is needed for the excess hog fuel. The feeders have provided a much higher degree of reliability compared to previous feeders, which tended to plug up in the bins as well as the chutes below. The feeders have substantially increased the amount of biomass used with corresponding reduction in the supplemental fuel needed. The "Moving Hole" feeders have in addition provided a uniform steady discharge of fuel compared to the pulsating action of the screws or "star feeders" which makes the wind swept spouts more effective. Single bin/feeder with multiple discharge points
A simple arrangement consists of single bin and feeder located parallel to the boiler wall, feeding directly into the boiler. Feed into the bin is via a single conveyor. Fuel is discharged by the multiple slot "Moving Hole" feeder to a chute split several ways to provide fuel into each spout. Two large bins/feeders perpendicular to boiler wall
This arrangement consists of two large bins and feeders located perpendicular to the boiler wall, feeding directly into the boiler. Feed into the bins is via a single conveyor which is split to two bins. Fuel discharged by each feeder is split to two chutes. Large bin/feeder per feed point
A distribution conveyor fills the first two bins and excess fuel goes to the last bin with level control that starts and stops the feed conveyor. Any two bins can meet 100% feed requirements, which provides redundancy. Large bin feeding to "mini" bins/feeders
Large bin at one end of the boiler building provides feed to "mini" feeders via a drag chain distribution conveyor. All the "mini" bins run full, except for the last one which has level control that starts and stops the feed conveyor. Since the large bin is close to the "mini" bins, a "returns" conveyor to handle excess fuel is not needed.
